Flight attendants’ union backs Spirit-Frontier merger

The union that represents flight attendants at Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines on Tuesday backed the carriers’ deliberate merger, clearing a labor hurdle among the many greatest employee teams on the airways.

The Affiliation of Flight Attendants-CWA stated it reached a so-called merger transition settlement with Frontier’s dad or mum that prohibits flight attendant furloughs throughout the merger, along with guaranteeing different protections.

“We assist the required regulatory approvals that may enhance competitors, enhance shopper choices and expertise, and preserve and develop good union jobs,” Sara Nelson, AFA’s president stated in a union announcement.

The settlement comes a day after JetBlue Airways launched a hostile takeover bid for Spirit. The low cost airline rejected JetBlue’s $33 per share, all-cash bid earlier this month. JetBlue on Monday made a young provide of $30 a share and urged Spirit shareholders to vote towards the Frontier-Spirit tie-up at a June 10 assembly.

JetBlue’s flight attendants are represented by the Transport Employees Union. Its president, John Samuelsen, instructed CNBC final month that TWU would search to signify a mixed JetBlue-Spirit flight attendant group if that deal occurred.

Both airline mixture can be topic to Justice Division approval.
